چکیده

Data with an array structure are common in statistics, and the design or regression matrix for analysis of such data can often be written as a Kronecker product. Factorial designs, contingency tables and smoothing of data on multidimensional grids are three such general classes of data and models. In such a setting, we develop an arithmetic of arrays which allows us to define the expectation of the data array as a sequence of nested matrix operations on a coefficient array. We show how this arithmetic leads to low storage, high speed computation in the scoring algorithm of the generalized linear model. We refer to a generalized linear array model and apply the methodology to the smoothing of multidimensional arrays. We illustrate our procedure with the analysis of three data sets: mortality data indexed by age at death and year of death, spatially varying microarray background data and disease incidence data indexed by age at death, year of death and month of death.

Fast and compact smoothing on large multidimensional grids

A framework of penalized generalized linear models and tensor products of B-splines with roughness penalties allows effective smoothing of data in multidimensional arrays. A straightforward application of the penalized Fisher scoring algorithm quickly runs into storage and computational difficulties. A novel algorithm takes advantage of the special structure of both the data as an array and the...

Non-linear Analysis of Stability in the Islamic Banking Industry

Stability analysis is one of the most important fields of study in the Islamic banking and finance industry. For measuring stability in Islamic banking, we introduced, for the first time, an Islamic banking stability index (IBS) during 2013 to 2016 which use all CAMEL factors and so seems to be more comprehensive than Z-score stability index which dominantly used in the existing literatures. To...

Differential equation models for statistical functions

Differential equations have been used in statistics to define functions such as probability densities. But the idea of using differential equation formulations of stochastic models has a much wider scope. The author gives several examples, including simultaneous estimation of a regression model and residual density, monotone smoothing, specification of a link function, differential equation mod...

Hyperparameter Estimation in

Data-driven hyperparameter estimation or automatic choice of the smoothing parameter is of great importance, especially in the applications. This article presents and compares three methods for hyperparameter estimation in the framework of exponential family state space models: First, we motivate and derive a formula for an approximative likelihood, and an alternative , yet mathematical equival...

A New Compact Ultra-wideband Linear Antenna Array for Target Detection Applications

This paper presents a low-cost compact planar microstrip-fed monopole antenna and its four-element array design for ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communication and target detection applications, respectively, operating in the frequency span of 3 GHz to 11 GHz. A prototype was fabricated and then measured based on optimal parameters. The results of reflection coefficient (S11) and radiation patt...
